Galadari plays key role in UAQ port project deal

DUBAI, November 19, 2017

UAE-based Galadari Advocates & Legal Consultants said it has played a key advisory role in a multi-million-dollar concession agreement for Ahmed Bin Rashid Port (ABRP) between the government of Umm Al Quwain and the Hong Kong-based Hutchison Ports Company.

The concession, which comes as part of the government’s ABRP development plan, will boost the emirate’s economy by increasing the port’s existing capacity by establishing state-of-the-art anchoring and loading facilities.

The project will see Hutchison Ports, a world class-operator, employ its expertise in the development and operation of container facilities at the UAQ port.

Commenting on the deal, Ziad Galadari, the chairman of Galadari Advocates & Legal Consultants, said: "We are delighted to announce the completion of this deal, which would ultimately help boost the emirate's economy. This marks another successful service milestone for the firm in its relationship with UAQ, having provided our legal expertise and advice in relation to the Dh25-billion ($6.8 billion) mixed use development deal with Sobha Group at Al Sinniyah Island last year."

"We look forward to continuing to support the government on this and other important projects in order to help advance the emirate’s growth," he noted.

Ken Dixon, partner of the firm at its DIFC offices and senior lawyer leading the team who advised on the deal, said: “We are pleased to have advised the government on yet another significant project that will further the economic development of this unique northern emirate."

"A key component of the deal was to ensure a commitment by all stakeholders towards a structured development of the port in terms of a predetermined development plan," he stated.

Led by Ziad Galadari, the team that advised the government on the project included Dixon, partner, Gerry Rogers, senior associate, Paula Villegas, associate, and Joe Khalaf, associate.-TradeArabia News Service
