Empower drive cuts energy usage by 8.6pc

DUBAI, September 6, 2017

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider has cut energy consumption by 8.6 per cent through its summer campaign – ‘Smile at 24 degrees’.

Empower’s summer campaign urged residents of the UAE to maintain thermostat temperature at 24 degree Celsius. In addition, the campaign provides simple tips and steps to reduce heat build-up in homes and lower monthly expenses in an eco-friendly way.

“At Empower, rational use of energy is of prime importance. All our initiatives are designed to establish a sustainable model of energy consumption in the UAE. It is indeed a pleasure to record significant savings month after month, which is a reflection of the trust our clients place on us,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

It has been noted that around 70 per cent of the region's power demand comes from cooling during peak summer months, so it's extremely important to evaluate the entire value chain and identify practices and initiatives that can generate efficiency gains. Empower’s summer campaign is one such initiative that helps customers reduce the electricity bill and boost the overall reliability and efficiency of the power network.

“During summers, the city's power usage takes a huge spike, due to the sheer rise in demand. Our campaign has not only helped raise awareness, but also involved all customers and residents to save energy consumption, protect natural resources, generate savings and ensure sustainable development. It is our goal to align our efforts to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which was launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and become the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050,” added Bin Shafar.

In the past few months, the Smile at 24 degrees campaign has helped decrease the energy consumed for cooling, protected the environment, lowered the carbon footprint and played a modest role in helping the UAE realise its vision for a sustainable economy. – TradeArabia News Service
