Saudi Arabia to design 14 'Makkan style' mosques

Saudi Arabia is set to build 14 out of 50 mosques in the original architectural style of Makkah to boost the Islamic identity of the surrounding Makkah environs, said a report.
The project will also identify the technical features and measurements to build mosques and provide the architectural structures with artistic poise that reflects the past, but in a modern framework, reported Arab News.
Confirming the report, the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs said it had alreaady begun implementing the designs at these 14 mosques in the Makkan style.
The ministry has also signed an agreement with the Charitable Foundation for the Construction of Mosques to design and rehabilitate 50 mosques in the holy city, it added.
