Qatar's public works authority Ashghal has announced the completion of a sewage network project in Al Gharrafa area in capital Doha.

The project, which involved laying of about 65-km-long sewage pipes and installation of 2,360 concrete manholes, was implemented by Oasis for Trading and Contracting at a total cost of QR200 million ($55 million).

With the project completion, all the houses on 3,190 plots in the project area, spread over 5.8 million sq m, have now been connected to the sewage network.

The work included building a sewage network in Zone 51 which comprises Al Gharrafa, Al Nasiriyya, Izghawa, and Bani Hajer, which all fall under Al Rayyan Municipality, said the statement from Ashghal.

The project also covers Zone 71 which consists of Al Kharaitiyat, and Umm Al Amad, which are under Umm Slal Municipality. The sewage network is 10 km northwest of Doha, it stated.

Ali Ibrahim Ashkanani, the head of North Areas Section at Roads Projects Management Department in Ashghal, said: "With the completion of the advanced sewage system in the area, which is connected to Pumping Station 70, the use of septic tanks will be eliminated and a permanent sewage network will be available."

Any completed project stays under warranty for 400 days, during which the contractor makes any required changes or maintenance, and this is a standard thing in all Ashghal’s contracts," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
