All the infrastructure development works related to the Fifa World Cup 2022 are being carried out at a steady pace with more than 50 per cent of the ambitious railway project already completed, said a report.

About 90 per cent of Fifa World Cup projects in all sectors have been awarded and are expected to be executed within the schedule, reported The Peninsula, citing the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Sheikh Abdullah was chairing the state cabinet’s regular weekly meeting at its Emiri Diwan premises in Doha yesterday (February 8).

The Prime Minister called for the commitment of the authorities to the implementation of the projects as per their plans and deadlines and the allocated budget, stated the report.

At the meeting, Minister of Finance Ali Sherif Al Emadi, who is also chairman of the ministerial group for coordination and follow-up of major projects (of strategic importance), gave a detailed presentation on the implementation of current and future projects in key sectors along with the steps taken to implement them.

Giving an update on the projects, Al Emadi said work on the road projects related to 2022 Fifa World Cup is going as per schedule and will be completed during 2017 and 2018.

On the rail project progress, the minister said about 100 per cent of the tunnelling operations and 45 per cent of the stations are complete.

Most of the projects are likely to be completed from the end of 2019 to mid-2020, he added.
