SHARJAH, February 7, 2017
Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) held talks with leading Indian construction group Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on its future developments and discussed ways to boost partnership for the upcoming 'smart energy' projects, according to a report.
Dr Rashid Al Leem, the chairman of Sewa and Praveen Gopal, the sales manager at Larsen & Toubro, who also led the delegation, discussed the major strategic plans of Sewa for 2020 and also talked about future projects, said state news agency Wam.
Dr Al Leem stressed that the organisation, upon the directives of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, seeks to build strategic partnerships with international agencies, companies and research centres to implement projects in order to develop networks, production and distribution centres for energy and water as per best international standards.
Al Leem said Sewa has already started implementing a number of projects to raise the efficiency of plants by 50 per cent and reduce network wastage.
The Sharjah utility, he stated, was keen to implement a number of developmental projects.
"Sewa is set to complete two distribution stations with 132 kV and 10 other distribution stations with 33 kV range besides changing cables and modifying networks more than 30 years old in order to ensure consistency and stability, and provide better services to the people of Sharjah, with a view to achieving sustainable development," he added.
The L&T delegation head hailed the vision of the Sharjah Ruler, citing the growth and development in various fields in the emirate, said the report.
He pointed out that the rapid development of Sewa was a strong motivation for the company to co-operate in various fields such as technology, engineering, construction and infrastructure development in a bid to further contribute to its growth and development, the report added.
