Lamps4U, Dulsco in key recycling initiative

DUBAI, December 13, 2016

UAE-based Lamps4U, a leading manufacturer and distributor of lighting products, fixtures and lamps, said it has partnered with Dubai’s Dulsco to support a green initiative aimed at recycling spent lamps across UAE.

Dulsco is a regional leader in human resources and waste management services.

The Lampswithbenefit initiative is a programme that offers an environmentally safe solution for disposal of spent lamps. It is designed to collect spent lamps to avoid the emission of harmful mercury vapour, said a statement from the company.

Every component is recycled for the benefit of the environment, it said.

All fluorescent and most high-intensity discharge lamps contain a small amount of mercury, a naturally occurring element that is critical for the energy-saving attributes of lamps. However, mercury is toxic and can cause an adverse effect on public health and environment.

To prevent this chemical from causing harm to our environment, this programme is designed to divert hazardous waste away from the landfill, it added.

As per the initiative, a specially designed environment-friendly Vaporlok Bags will be made available through various locations, in which consumers should place spent/burnt-out lamps and drop them at the company's drop-off bins at designated locations across the UAE, said a statement.

Spent bulbs from these containers will be picked by its customised vehicles created especially for this programme, it said.

These lamps will be then disposed by proper methods which will not harm the environment. Consumers can log on to www.lampswithbenefits.ae to locate the nearest drop-off location for disposing of their spent lamps, it stated.

Mahesh Patel, CEO of Lamps4U, said, “Through our partnership with Dulsco, we aim to collect as many spent lamps as possible diverting them away from the landfill.”

“We also intend to create awareness on the harmful effects of mercury. This association ensures that our environment is safe for present and future generations to come,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
