Morocco agrees $1.43bn for new convention centre

Morocco recently approved an allocation of MAD14 billion ($1.43 billion) for the construction of a convention centre in Agadir, a report said.

The project also includes the construction of an exhibition center by 2020, added the Morocco World News report.

The Wali of the province of Souss-Massa region, Zineb Aladaoui said that the project will enable the availability of both buildings in the capital of Souss.

Meanwhile, the director of the regional investment center (CRI) in Souss Massa, Khalil Nazih, said that the investment of CRI recorded an eight per cent increase during the first half of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015.

Nazih pointed out that 50 percent of these investments concerns the tourism sector. Projects such as: “Aqua park” which will mobilize an investment of 25 million euros, as well as an amusement park “Agadir Land” with an investment of nearly MAD192 million, creating a direct employment for 750 people.

“This dynamic is the result of the will of many of actors and investor and also thanks to the strong involvement of Moroccans living abroad, who were the initiators of the opening and the launch of several building sites and local initiatives that added a value and created employment opportunities,” the CRI director said.
