Plan to build car-park in Muharraq discussed
MANAMA, August 25, 2016
A proposal to construct a four-storey car-park in Bahrain's Muharraq area was discussed during a meeting of officials.
The meeting was convened by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, said a BNA report.
The car-park is planned as part of the Pearling Trail, a Unesco World Heritage site.
The meeting was attended by Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry assistant under-secretary for roads Huda Fakhro and Lieutenant-Colonel Adel Al Dosari from the General Directorate of Traffic.
Results of a feasibility study conducted by Italian Systematica traffic consultancy firm were also discussed, focusing on the positive impact of the planned project.
The 3.5-km Pearling Trail, testimony of an island economy, consists of 17 buildings in Muharraq city, three offshore oyster beds, part of the seashore and the Qal'at Bu Mahir fortress on the southern tip of Muharraq Island, from where boats used to set off for the oyster beds.
