Bahrain starts work on sewerage networks upgrade
MANAMA, August 13, 2016
Bahrain has commenced work on Phase 6 of its sewerage networks upgrade project in various blocks in Muharraq, the Northern and Capital governorates.
The project aims to reduce leakage of underground water into the network.
Sanitary Engineering Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Asma Murad said the project, which commenced in July, targets deteriorated sewerage connections in 11 blocks at the three governorates. The upgrading works started in Block 528 in Diraz.
The project comprises upgrading 8.4 km of sewerage connections with diameters varying between 150-400 mm. German company Tubus- HTR is in charge of implementing the BD2.5-million ($6.58 million) project.
Modern techniques are implemented in the project, such as pipe bursting and CIPP (cured in place pipe), tight in pipe calibration and spot robotics, all of which prolong the life cycle of sewerage networks, reduce underground water seepage, alleviate pressure on pumping stations and sewage treatment plants and result in less inconvenience and traffic disturbance, a statement said.
