UAE to build resting facilities near dams

ABU DHABI, August 1, 2016

The UAE is planning to construct facilities to rest near dams across the country, Infrastructure Development Minister Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi has said.

The facilities will also include green areas and man-made lakes and will be built in coordination with the relevant authorities, a Wam report said.

In a statement, the minister who issued the relevant directives, said his ministry takes interest in advancing the quality of the country's infrastructure based on the best global practices.

Undersecretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development Zahra Al Abboudi and other officials inspected the first resting facility built at Shawka dam in Ras Al Khaimah.

The capacity of the dam, which is 13 m high and 107 m long, is 275,000 cu m. It helps enhance the quality of underground water and prevents the accumulation of silt and evaporation of stored water. The capacity of the dam will be increased by 14 per cent.

Director of Roads at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development added that the resting facility which was built in less than a year is now being thronged by tourists and residents.
