A5 North/Weinviertel ... a major motorway in Lower Austria.

Hochtief wins Austria motorway project deal

ESSEN (Germany), February 27, 2016

Hochtief, one of the leading international construction groups, said it has won the contract for expansion of A5 North/Weinviertel motorway, one of the most important roadway construction projects in Lower Austria.

The motorway runs through the northeast of Austria from the Schrick junction through Wilfersdorf, Walterskirchen to Poysbrunn in the direction of the Czech border.

The forth construction lot primarily encompasses the construction of a 6.6-km-long route between Walterskirchen and Poysbrunn, eleven bridges, noise protection measures, and other facilities.

Under the deal, the Hochtief Infrastructure Austria will be expanding the motorway in a joint venture with Alpine Bau CZ.

The  €48 million ($54 million) contract for the forth construction lot of the A5 was awarded by the Austrian road construction company Asfinag Baumanagement.

About 50 per cent of the contract amount will go to Hochtief. The road section is planned to be opened to traffic in December 2017.

After a construction period of approximately 28 months, all of the work is to be completed by the summer of 2018, it stated.

Approximately 1.6 million cu m of material will be removed over the course of the work. Some 600,000 cu m of this will be reused for fill. The rest will be used for terrain modeling outside of the building plot, said Hochtief in its statement.

Around 36,000 cu m of road concrete and approximately 50,000 tons of asphalt will also be used for the construction of the two-lane motorway plus an emergency lane, it added.

Hochtief is one of the most international construction groups worldwide. The company delivers complex infrastructure projects, in some cases on the basis of concession models.-TradeArabia News Service
