The Iranian government has announced the launch of a new solar farm in capital Tehran with a capacity of generating 250 kilowatts (kW) per hour of electricity, said a report.

The farm, which is equipped with a photovoltaic (PV) system, was established at a cost of over 17 billion rials (about $450,000), reported the Tehran Times.

It is one of the four projects which came on stream costing nearly 58 billion rials (about $1.56 million) over the past year.

A solar tracking system has been installed in the PV system that boosts its annual efficiency by 40 percent compared to a fixed solar system, said the report.

Buoyed by its success, the government plans to now establish similar PV solar farms in other parts of the country, it added.
