QPMC ... boosting gabbro berth terminal capacity.

Qatar Primary Materials starts gabbro sales

DOHA, August 31, 2015

Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) said it has begun the sale of the gabbro (a coarse-grained and usually dark-colored igneous rock which is often used as facing stones on buildings) stocked at the company's outlets in Mesaieed and Lusail areas to the public and private sector.

This comes as part of its commitment to support Qatar’s ambitious vision and the national development strategy in its huge infrastructure and primary materials development requirements, said a statement from QPMC.

QPMC has also increased its gabbro berth terminal capacity across the ports to 58 million tons per year whilst completing its largest flagship project. Its full swing operation will start from the first-quarter of 2016, the company said in a statement.

The Qatari company emphasized that it will supply gabbro and limestone, for both the private and government sectors to ensure the stability of prices of primary infrastructure materials in the local market and provide all the required quantities for all as part of its mission to help the country’s infrastructure development.

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and QPMC had recently signed a framework of agreement and according to the agreement, QPMC will supply Ashghal with 91mn tonnes of gabbro and limestone for next five years.

To support the growing demand of aggregate for Qatar’s infrastructure development, QPMC is increasing the capacity of the bulk materials with Gabbro Berth Terminal in Mesaieed Port, which will have an unloading capacity of 34 million tons a year by 2016 through the conveyor stacker system.

QPMC has also revealed lately the launch and full operation of a second jetty at Lusail. The second and newly added jetty is located in the Lusail city, where many construction projects are taking place.

It will supply 3 million tonnes of construction material per year to support all construction work in the new city.-TradeArabia News Service
