Fujairah Airport...anticipating influx of travellers

Fujairah Airport reveals major expansion plans

FUJAIRAH, August 11, 2015

Fujairah International Airport (FIA) has embarked on a multimillion dollar expansion plan, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Airports, to meet the expected influx of tourists over the coming years.

Through amemorandum of cooperation (MoC) signed by the two airport authorities, Fujairah International will benefit from Abu Dhabi Airports' experience in planning and managing an airport expansion, said a report in Travel and Tourism News Middle East.

The expansion programme includes construction of a new ATC Tower, parallel runway, existing runway expansion to accommodate A380s, 40MVA 33KV substation, eight connecting taxiways including rapid exit taxiways and one parallel taxiway.

Furthermore, Abu Dhabi Airports has called for bids on the expansion programme. Bidders are required to submit an expression of interest (EOI) latest by August 23, post which a seperate pre-qualification and tender process will follow.

EOI responses or queries can be submitted to contractscpc@adac.ae. Tender fees of Dh30,000 ($8,166) will be applicable at the Tender stage.

Apart from commercial operations, FIA has a strong focus on aircraft maintenance with maintenance repair operations (MRO), with multiple areas available for any size maintenance operations.

Additional MRO hangars are under construction to provide overhaul repair for the aircrafts in the future, which includes five wide body aircraft hangars and one 200 x 50m hangar for aircraft parking.

FIA also has an Open Skies policy that allows airlines from any country to fly to and from the airport subject to UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (Gaca) regulation, the report said.
