Iran plans to establish oil terminals in four islands to diversify export outlets from the biggest oil terminal on Kharg Island which accounts for more than 90 per cent of crude exports, a report said.

The islands of Jask, Lavan, Sirri and Qeshm have been named for the construction of the new terminals, said the Iran Daily, which cited an IRNA report.

The terminal at Jask will be set up on the coasts of the Sea of Oman and will shorten tankers routes once established, the report said.

The project will feature a 2,200-kilometer pipeline and a number of storage depots, each with a capacity of 20 million barrels.

Plans are underway to construct similar terminals in Lavan and Sirri islands, Pirouz Mousavi, the managing director of Iranian Oil Terminals Company, was quoted as saying in the report.
