Italy's CMC wins key Beirut water project

Italian construction firm Cmc di Ravenna has won a €165 million ($191 million) contract for the construction of 24-km-long tunnel and transfer lines for smooth water supply in Beirut, Lebanon.
The project, which involves works for the excavation of tunnels and water transfer in Beirut, was awarded by the Council for Development and Reconstruction, Beirut (Lebanon). It will be partially financed by the World Bank, said a statement from the Italian company.
These tunnels will be excavated by two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), it stated.
This award testifies CMC capacity in the technologically complex sector of excavation employing TBM, where it will operate using 16 machines during 2015, both in Italy and abroad, said the statement.
Last year, CMC won new orders worth approximately €1.2 billion ($1.39 billion), of which €750 million ($869 million) pertains to the international market, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
