Qatar mall's gypsum ceiling collapses
DOHA, January 15, 2015
Panic spread among shoppers as a part of the gypsum ceiling of a popular shopping mall in Doha, Qatar, collapsed yesterday (January 14).
Two people were slightly injured in the incident at the Landmark shopping mall, said local newspaper reports.
The ceiling of the corridor of the mall collapsed in the morning. The corridor leads to the food court, cinemas and children’s play area.
Doha News said a woman was hit on the shoulder by the falling gypsum and a baby was hit on the hand. They were taken by ambulance to Hamad Hospital but discharged within hours.
“Civil Defence is checking into the safety of the Landmark after the collapse of a small part of the gypsum ceiling at the corridor,” a Ministry of Interior Twitter statement said.
