Bahrain minister inspects ring road project

MANAMA, December 4, 2014

Bahrain’s Minister of Works Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf visited Muharraq Ring Road Project (Phase One) to inspect work progress.

He was accompanied by the acting roads assistant undersecretary Kadhim Abdul Latif, acting roads projects and maintenance director Sayyed Badir Alawi and a number of engineers from the ministry.

The minister revealed that the project, which is funded by the GCC Fund, was awarded to Saudi Eastern Trading & Contracting Group and the Bahraini contractor Sayyed Kadhim Al Dirazi & Sons at a cost of BD5.06 million ($13.35 million).

Muharraq Ring Road project starts from the entrance to Galali and Amwaj and ends at the Diyar Al Muharraq entrance, passing through the entrances to Samaheej and Dair villages.

Work comprises upgrading an 8.4-km stretch of road from a single to a dual carriageway with three lanes in each direction, with the possibility of adding a fourth lane in the future near the intersections of Galali and Samaheej.

The project will provide a double high-capacity road on the eastern side of the island. Work also includes improving the intersections with Samaheej and Dair, installing safety barriers, lighting poles and traffic signals.

Phase Two of the project includes constructing an extension to Muharraq Ring Road; connecting Busaiteen and Bahrain International Airport to Manama at the North Manama Causeway, in addition to expanding the road to a dual carriageway. – TradeArabia News Service
