Barwa Al Baraha is set to become the GCC's largest workers'
accommodation.

Mercury Mena wins Qatar MEP contract

DOHA, September 27, 2014

Mercury Mena, an international engineering specialist solutions provider, said it has won a major mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract for an integrated workers’ accommodation at Barwa Al Baraha development in Qatar.

Measuring approximately 1.8 million sq m, Barwa Al Baraha is designed to serve as an integrated workers' city that will accommodate 53,000 workers and employees, making it the GCC's largest workers' accommodation.

The project will be developed in two phases. The first phase will focus on establishing Qatar's largest truck and vehicle parking space, while the second phase will provide worker and staff accommodation, pre-owned car show rooms, auctions, workshops and stores for truck and machinery maintenance services.

The complete MEP works contract for buildings package II of the second phase of the project was awarded by Construction & Reconstruction Engineering Company Qatar (CRC), the main contractor.

The package II will have around 32 accommodation buildings, each consisting of 130 rooms, said a statement from Mercury Mena.

As per the deal, the company will provide MEP services for the accommodation buildings, the four dining areas, two mosques and four toilet blocks as well as provision of six substations, it stated.

The scope of services will include plumbing and drainage, electrical works, extra-low voltage (ELV) installations, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) and life safety works.

Mercury Mena said it will be working in co-operation with CRC and the project consultants, Qatar Design Consortium (QDC).

On completion, the development will be able to accommodate nearly 24,000 workers, who will also get to enjoy the use of two playgrounds, as well as restaurants and utility shops, said the statement.

Barwa Al Baraha will provide all necessary facilities for residents including sports facilities, a shopping mall, restaurants, a medical centre and public spaces, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
