Doha, August 12, 2014
Education City, an initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, is set to build two parts of Qatar Economic Zone which will be spread over 42 sq km, said a report.
The first part of the zone, which will be located on the Doha Expressway, will house industries for modern technology, air cargo, food industries, tools and instruments, commercial offices and assembling units for logistic services, said The Peninsula report.
The other part of the zone will have industrial units related to logistic services, mining, petrochemicals, construction materials, machines and tools and vehicle parts manufacturers, it said.
The zones will also have three huge car parking facilities to be built by Qatar Foundation, with a capacity to accommodate around 8,000 cars and spread over an area of 100,000 sq m, said the report.
The first parking facility will be a four-storeyed building with a capacity for 3,160 cars and will have an automatic system to manage traffic inside. It is expected to be ready by the end of the year, it said.
The second parking lot will be a two-storey underground facility with a capacity to accommodate 1,640 cars, while the third, with four floors will be able to accommodate 2,960 cars, it said.
Education City will also be home to a three-star hotel which is expected to be completed by the end of next year, besides health centres, retail shops, office spaces, children's play areas and prayer rooms, it added.
