Bahrain invites bids for phase II of Northern Town

Manama, June 19, 2014

Bahrain’s Ministry of Housing has invited pre-qualification bids from contractors and design and supervision consultants for the second phase development of the new Northern Town – Al Madina Al Shamliya.

The tenders will initiate work on apartment units and related infrastructure on three island plots of the $450 million social housing project off the northwest coast of Bahrain, said a statement.

The bids are now being invited from contracting firms for two separate construction contracts, for infrastructure and utilities development on plots known as Islands 10, 11 and 12, and for the construction of bridges linking Islands nine, 10, 11 and 12, it said.

Consultants have also been invited to pre-qualify for two separate construction contracts, to draw up designs for the apartment units on Islands 10, 11 and 12, and to supervise the construction of infrastructure, utilities and bridges development on these islands.

UAE contractors will be given preference for these projects, which will be funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development under the $10 billion GCC aid package awarded to Bahrain.

The deadline for submission of the bids is July 16.

The housing ministry last month kicked off the second phase of the development by signing a BD10 million ($26.3 million) agreement with a consortium consisting of Kuwait-based Aresco and Bahrain-based Tamkon Company to build 316 housing units on a plot known as Island 14.

Meanwhile, it revealed that work on the first phase of 530 units, funded by Kuwait through the GCC aid package, is nearing completion. - TradeArabia News Service
