Bahrain, Kuwait fund sign Tubli sewage plant deal

Manama, April 9, 2014

A financing agreement has been signed between Bahrain and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).

The deal is part of the Gulf Development Programme, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa signed the deal with KFAED director-general Abdulwahab Ahmed Al Bader.

Under the agreement, the Kuwaiti side will provide a grant of $136 million to fund the Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant Expansion Phase 4.

The project aims to accommodate an increased flow of wastewater with an average daily flow capacity of 200,000 m3/day through rehabilitation work on existing facilities to reach a full average daily flow capacity of 400,000 mA/day.

This will improve the plant's efficiency and the quality of output, and reduce environmental risks.
