New Dubai rental scams unearthed
Dubai, September 10, 2012
Some Dubai property owners are taking legal action against at least two property firms they hired to rent and manage their properties, according to a report.
The owners say they are owed rental fees by the firms, the Gulf News report said.
Two of the owners said they had approached one of the companies to try and sort out issues with bounced cheques and had been told initially, at a time when offices of the firm were still open, that they would be issued new cheques. No new cheques were issued and the owners asserted they have still not been paid rents collected by the property management firm from tenants in new Dubai.
Phone calls to the offices of the firm went unanswered, the report said.
“We tried to settle this out of court but now that the office is closed, we have no other option than to go to the police,” the owner said.
Owners said they have informed tenants living in their properties that they have not been paid for their property rentals.
Tenants told owners they have already paid their rental fees to the property management firm, a scenario that leaves the property owners in legal limbo, the report added.
