Qatalum installs anti-corrosion reinforcement
Doha, August 17, 2009
Qatar Aluminium (Qatalum), the largest aluminium project ever launched in Qatar, recently installed Schöck corrosion-resistant high-quality concrete reinforcements in the rectifier areas of the floor slab.
Schöck ComBAR bars are made of glass fibres and a synthetic resin, and are non-magnetic and can be used as electrically non-conductive concrete reinforcement.
In the case of the Qatalum factory, requirements regarding the durability of the reinforcement were particularly strict because the construction site is located in an area with very corrosive environmental conditions.
As ComBAR’s design lifetime is 100 years, even in the Middle East environment, and because ComBAR meets all the other project requirements, it was specified by the consultant.
Another important aspect of Schöck ComBAR is the fact that a complete rebar system containing double-headed bolts, bent rebars and spacers is provided, including Schöck's complete engineering services, supporting consultants and owners.
Large machines for aluminium production, which operate at high voltages, will be installed on these slabs. Schöck ComBAR GFRP reinforcement was installed in this project in ten transformer foundations and more than 1,000 sq m of concrete slabs for the “PFC bays”. – TradeArabia News Service
