Bahrain Investment Wharf 'on schedule'

Manama, April 28, 2009

The Bahrain Investment Wharf (BIW) project is on track, BIW chief Muhannad Al Durra said as Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro visited the project site.

Work on the roads and sewerage networks have progressed by 50 and 70 per cent to date, he said.

The minister's visit was at the invitation of the Al Khaleej Development Company (Tameer), owner of the project.

Present were BIW chairman Ahmed Al Qattan, deputy chairman Laith Al Mamaar and Al Durra.

Dr Fakhro was briefed on the landmark 170 hectare-development project at the Hid Industrial Zone.

A documentary film was screened showcasing the different stages of the project.

'A major bulk of 98 per cent of the parcels have already sold by local, regional and international investors,' Al Durra said.

Several small- and medium-sized companies have been attracted to the BIW zone.

The firms are specialised in various industries, particularly glass, furniture, yacht assembling, moving stairs and lifts, food processing, water technology, paper industries, ready mix, bloc and other support services and industrial workshops.

Dr Fakhro described the BIW project as an added value to national economy, boosting state revenues.

He also lauded BIW officials' efforts to attract investments, reiterating the government's resolve to streamline procedures for such development schemes.-TradeArabia News Service
