Alumco wins massive EWIG contract

Alumco, the UAE-based specialised aluminum facade contractor and major glass processor, said it has won a 45,000 sqm aluminium curtain wall contract from Morganti International for East and West International Group (EWIG).
Under the agreement, Alumco will provide aluminum composite cladding, aluminum and glazing works for a mixed use development project to be developed at Muroor Road in Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on the win, Samer Barakat, managing director of Alumco, said: "We are extremely delighted to take up this challenging task. The mixed use development project is special since it paves the way for our first step into Abu Dhabi."
"We consider this as a golden opportunity to contribute towards the development boom in the Emirate. Right now, the project is at the design engineering phase. Alumco is set to begin work in February 2009 and is expected to finish its role by May 2010,” he noted.
The contract won by Alumco will see the installation of a total of 45,000 sqm of aluminum fittings which will include 25,000 sqm of unitised curtain wall, 16,000 sqm of stick curtain wall sliding doors and 3,700 sqm of aluminum fins and 700 sqm of louvers.
Al Habtoor Engineering is the lead contractor for the overall project while Bainona Consulting Engineering Bureau is the consultant and Bayaty Architects are the architects.
The EWIG mixed use development project is designed to have a luxury hotel, commercial complex and a number of residential apartments.
The project will consist of 4 towers a 36 floor hotel tower, a 16 floor residential tower, a 20 floor service apartments building and a 16 floor office tower.
Barakat said Al Habtoor Engineering had chosen Alumco for this trendsetting project in Abu Dhabi owing to its excellent and proven track record in a specialized area of construction and engineering.
