Cityscape awards to reward local talent

Cityscape Dubai 2008 will present the Cityscape Architectural Awards, a celebration of architectural excellence in emerging markets on October 6 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Dubai.
Endorsed by the Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) and under the theme of ‘Design for an Emerging World’, the awards, now in their fifth year, will feature a new category - the ‘Young Architect Award’ seeking to encourage and reward promising local student talent.
The awards have attracted the attention of leading international architects from the emerging world, as well as developers, consultants, governmental authorities, investors and senior industry professionals from the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent & Latin America.
Rohan Marwaha, managing director, Cityscape said: "No industry can survive without nurturing local promise and providing career opportunities for creative talent to flourish."
Three 'Special Awards' will also be given for contribution to the environment, Islamic architecture and master planning.
The Awards will be judged by a team of eminent and internationally acclaimed architects and industry figureheads who will gather in mid-September to select a shortlist from the nominations.
The independence of the jury will ensure transparency in the judging process ensuring winners will be worthy recipients of the highly-coveted awards.
"The Cityscape Architectural Awards have now set the global industry standard. They are eagerly anticipated and have always been keenly contested, which is a tribute to the astonishing array of talent that the judges are continually confronted with," said Marwaha.
The Cityscape Architectural Awards has attracted headline sponsors such as; American Breeze, Bose, Dalkia, Etisalat, Gaggenau, LAB 23, RAK Ceramics and Smart Box.
Submissions for the various award categories will be accepted up until 6pm on September 1, 2008, the company said in a statement. - TradeArabia News service
