AMA bags $58m Bahrain Bay contract

Manama, February 4, 2008

Bahrain Bay has awarded a BD22 million ($58.6 million) infrastructure contract to the leading regional infrastructure group AMA.

The contract will see the construction of key elements of Bahrain Bay's infrastructure such as its road networks, water network, sewage, storm drainage and irrigation water networks, as well as its telecommunications installation system and bridge network.

'Our latest supplier contract speaks volumes about the ambition of Bahrain Bay. The scale of the waterfront community we are creating is underlined by the fact that AMA will create more than six kilometres of road network, more than 4.5 kilometres of storm drainage and a 5 kilometre telecommunications installation system,' Bahrain Bay chief executive officer Bob Vincent said.

'AMA will also build the four main bridges of Bahrain Bay. We welcome AMA to the team and we have every confidence they will fulfil their role in successfully developing a world-leading infrastructure for Bahrain Bay.'

AMA Construction vice-chairman Jalal Ahmed Mansoor Al A'Ali said: 'Our appointment as the main infrastructure contractor continues our relationship with the $2.5 billion Bahrain Bay project, building on our current role for the construction of the key walls for the project.'

Bahrain Bay chairman Atif A Abdulmalik said: 'The shareholders are particularly pleased with the appointment of a quality contractor such as AMA and it is a significant step in managing the construction risk of the project.'-TradeArabia News Service
