$1.4bn tower project planned in Bahrain
Manama, December 13, 2007
A new BD550 million ($1.466 billion) project planned for Juffair will feature one of Bahrain's tallest tower buildings.
Nomas Towers features four tower blocks with the highest standing at 238.9 metres.
The 66-storey building is one of four towers in the development, which will include apartments, hotel with a private beach, restaurants, three-storey mall, a health club, swimming pools, playgrounds, seafront villas and 4,437 car park spaces.
All four towers will be residential, but one includes the hotel while another includes offices.
The Manama Municipal Council gave the project the initial go-ahead during its meeting yesterday, but will await a traffic study before giving it the final approval.
Councillors said a Bahraini investor was behind the development, but declined to name him.
"The project is well connected to the area's road infrastructure and will create jobs for Bahrainis in the hospitality and retail sectors," said council technical committee chairman Abdulmajeed Al Sebea'a.
"All the concerned bodies had no objections, but there is something missing and that's the traffic assessment." -TradeArabia News Service
