Dubai RTA undertakes $6.8bn projects
Dubai, November 6, 2007
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has undertaken projects worth more than Dh25 billion ($6.8 billion) since its inception two years back, a report said.
The RTA, set up in November 2005, has completed a number of key projects related to road infrastructure development and public transport while a number of others are being carried out, a Gulf News report quoted chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, as saying.
"The biggest evidence of our achievements is the volume of the undergoing projects, which exceeds Dh25 billion," Al Tayer told a gathering at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
Al Tayer said the RTA is working to achieve an integrated transport and traffic strategic plan in the emirate up to 2020. "We have also made short-term solutions to address traffic congestion problems in addition to long term solutions to achieve the vision of the RTA for smooth and safe transport for all," he added.
Explaining, he said the RTA is hoping to tackle traffic congestion concentrating on six objects: developing roads network, mass transit systems (rail, buses and marine transport), developing policies and legislations to control demand for transport and traffic, and to launch awareness drives.
