$1bn Qatar power plant
Seoul, July 12, 2007
General Electric's energy unit and South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries have won a $1 billion order to build a power plant for aluminum smelting in Qatar, Doosan said.
The consortium will build the 1,250 megawatt combined cycle power plant in Mesaeed Industrial City, located 40 km south of the capital Doha, for Hydro Aluminium AS and Qatar Petroleum.
Doosan's portion of the deal is 460.1 billion won ($501 million), the South Korean firm said in a statement.
The planned power plant, scheduled for completion by July 2010, will supply electricity to Qatar's largest aluminium smelting plant.Reuters
