Common GCC currency inevitable: Oman cbank chief

MUSCAT, November 1, 2016

The creation of a single GCC currency has become inevitable and its implementation is only a matter of time, Oman's central bank chief has been quoted as saying.

Serious measures are being studied to achieve it, the Saudi Arabian-owned Al Sharq al-Awsat newspaper quoted Hamood Sangour Al-Zadjali as saying, according to a Reuters report.

However, he said Oman is not one of the countries pushing for a common currency, he said.

The creation of a monetary union is on GCC agenda since 1980s.
