Osamah Shaker, new CEO of GIB Capital

GIB Capital gets new chief executive

MANAMA, July 13, 2016

Gulf International Bank (GIB), a pan-GCC universal bank that specialises in corporate and investment banking, has appointed Osamah Mohammed Shaker as the new chief executive of its investment banking unit GIB Capital.

Shaker comes with substantial banking experience in both international and domestic financial institutions within Saudi Arabia, said a statement from the Bahrain-based GIB.

Most recently, he held the position of director general of banking control overseeing and regulating all the commercial banks in the kingdom and senior advisor to the deputy governor for supervision at the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA).  

Prior to that, Shaker gained over 16 years of banking and investment experience in the kingdom with the Saudi British Bank and HSBC Saudi Arabia, it said.

During his time at HSBC Saudi Arabia, he held executive level positions as managing director - head of investments, and subsequently managing director - head of financial markets, it added.

Shaker is a holder of a Bachelor of Administrative Sciences Degree in Quantitative Methods from King Saud University (Riyadh) and a Master of Science Degree in Statistics from Colorado State University (US).  

Additionally, he has also worked at the Institute of Public Administration, teaching statistics and providing statistical consultation.

Welcoming Shaker to the fold, CEO Abdulaziz A Al Helaissi, said: "We are fortunate to have a man of his experience lead our investment banking services."
