Dubai Chamber to organise WIEF in 2014
Dubai, November 5, 2013
Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation to organise the 10th session of the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Dubai in 2014.
The agreement was signed between Hamad Buamim, president and CEO, Dubai Chamber, and Tan Sri Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, secretary general, WIEF Foundation.
During the World Islamic Economic Forum in London, where the MoU was signed, Dubai Chamber’s stand attracted around 1,500 visitors, who expressed an interest in Dubai’s growing Islamic finance sector and opportunities in other Islamic economy areas, such as halal tourism, halal food and halal lifestyle industries.
Buamim welcomed the interest in Dubai Chamber’s stand saying that it showed Dubai’s reputation as a successful Islamic hub and business destination.
“Efforts to place Dubai at the centre of the world’s Islamic economy are gaining pace with the selection of the city to host the 10th session of the World Islamic Economic Forum next year. Dubai Chamber is delighted to be entrusted with organising this important global conference for the Islamic finance sector,” Buamim said.
“Next month, Dubai Chamber will also organise the Global Islamic Economy Summit, which is a two-day event exploring all areas of this important and emerging area like halal food production, halal tourism and halal standardisation and certification. It will be the first time that one forum will focus on all these different areas that are unified under the Islamic economy and we are expecting to attract a lot of interest.”
Dubai Chamber’s stand also provided visitors with information about Dubai’s bid to host the World Expo 2020, as well as information on investment opportunities in Dubai. Dubai Chamber’s services, such as its International Business Network and international expansion, were publicised.
The Ambassador of the UAE to the UK Abdul Rahman Ghanem Al Mutaiwee praised Dubai’s efforts to host WIEF 2014 saying Dubai is able to impress the world with its investment potential and capabilities.
He also praised Dubai Chamber’s role as organiser, saying that the non-profit business organisation had made an excellent impression on the forum’s participants, which served to enhance the city’s global reputation as a leading business destination.
Organised under the theme "Changing World, New Relationships," WIEF 2013 was attended by 2,500 delegates including heads of state, policy-makers and Islamic scholars. – TradeArabia News Service
