StanChart makes key UAE appointment

Abu Dhabi, July 5, 2012

Standard Chartered has named Dr Bejan Roohi, a seasoned banker with a 20-year track record in the financial industry in Europe and Mena, as the new managing director and head of Origination and Client Coverage for Abu Dhabi.

The move comes in line with Standard Chartered's continuous focus on the UAE, one of its top five markets globally.

Based in Abu Dhabi, Roohi will lead the bank’s wholesale banking client relationships in the capital. He will report to Morad Mahlouji, the regional head of Origination and Client Coverage for Middle East North Africa and Pakistan at Standard Chartered.

Commenting on the appointment, Mahlouji said: "Standard Chartered has been operating in the UAE for more than 53 years and since then, we have built deep relationships with key corporations operating in the country."

"Dr Roohi’s appointment reflects our desire to further increase our presence and deepen core bank relationships in this key city in a key market. We are confident that Bejan will bring value to our clients in the UAE’s capital city,” he added.

Roohi joined Standard Chartered in 2007 in the Capital Markets Group where he played a key role in developing the capital markets business in Abu Dhabi.

Prior to that, Roohi was with Citi Group in London for 13 years. He has a Doctorate in Biochemistry, an MBA and is a Chartered Accountant.-TradeArabia News Service
