ME-IR Society Qatar Chapter holds first meeting
Doha, April 22, 2012
The Middle East Investor Relations Society’s (ME-IR Society) Qatar Chapter has announced that it has successfully held its first inaugural meeting in Doha.
The meeting was hosted by the board chairman, Adel Al Mutawa, executive director for programme follow up at Qatar Telecom (Qtel), and chairman of the ME-IR Society’s Qatar Chapter.
Also present at the meeting Vodafone Qatar, Qatar National Bank, Commercial Bank of Qatar and Qatar Stock Exchange.
The objective of the Qatar Chapter is to raise awareness about and promote best practice investor relations in the country through training, seminars and networking events, a statement from the Society said.
The Chapter offers a platform to connect investor relations professionals from leading quoted companies through an informal representative board, where the IR community in Qatar can express and request IR initiatives and materials that will enhance and support their ability to communicate efficiently and transparently with international investors.
“We are pleased to have kicked-off the first Chapter board meeting and are excited about the upcoming IR focused events and initiatives that will take place in Qatar in the coming months,” said Adel Al Mutawa. “The ultimate goal of the Qatar members who participated in today’s meeting is to raise awareness about IR and the benefits it delivers. In collaboration with the Qatar Exchange, the regulator and other market participants, we hope to drive best practice IR and promote Qatar as a regional leader in IR.”
During the meeting discussions centered on establishing targets including an increase of membership level, certification for IR professionals and agreeing on a calendar of future events, the statement said.
The next major IR focused event to take place in Qatar will be the ME-IR Society Annual IR Conference and training session at the end of May. – TradeArabia News Service
