An expat school teacher, Magda Abdelsamie Mohamed Sakar, emerged out as the winner of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) millionaire destiny savings account (MDSA) quarterly grand prize.

Arup Mukhopadhyay, head of ADCB Consumer Banking and Sultan Mohamed Al Mahmood, head of HRD, awarded Dh1 million ($27,225) cash prize to Magda at a ceremony held in the bank’s head office in Abu Dhabi.

The Egyptian expat teacher had opened her account in July 2009 with an initial deposit of Dh10,000, the bank said in a statement.

Magda became eligible for entering the quarterly MDSA millionaire prize draw by keeping a minimum balance of Dh5000 in her account, thus increasing her chances to win each successive month, as each passing month gave her extra chances to win, it added.

Her success in maintaining more than the required minimum average amount in her ADCB MDSA account resulted in her name being drawn in June 2010 for the grand prize of Dh1 million in cash, said Mukhopadhyay.

The ADCB official said MDSA was its flagship prize draw product and dubbed it as 'one of the best prize draw products in the market today.'

'In a relatively short period of 14 months since the launch, MDSA has attracted over 17,000 customers, and it is these customers who have made the Millionaire Destiny Savings Account such a great success,' he added.

In early 2010 we had increased the frequency of MDSA’s Dh1 million cash prize four fold, now awarding a winner every three months, which has been greatly welcomed by our MDSA customers, said Mukhopadhyay.

On her win, Magda said, “I was truly surprised when ADCB told me on July 15 that I had won the grand prize. Upon hearing the news I cut my holiday in Egypt short, and returned to UAE to receive the Dh1 million cash prize.'
