Bahrain cbank warns against dubious messages
Manama, April 13, 2010
The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has warned customers of CBB licensed banks and financial institutions against e-mails or SMS mobile messages from suspicious websites.
These e-mails and SMS messages may appear to come from a reputable bank or company that one recognizes and does business with.
Although the message may look legitimate, it is trying to compel one to submit one’s personal and confidential information, which will be used to steal one’s credentials, the bank said in a statement.
The CBB has warned all customers of licensed banks and financial institutions to be vigilant and to never provide personal information in response to an unsolicited request, whether it is over the phone or the Internet.
Should customers receive such suspicious e-mails or SMS messages, they are requested to immediately notify their bank to verify such request.
The CBB has also issued a circular to all retail banks to immediately warn their customers against such fraudulent acts. – TradeArabia News Service
