OIC to provide insurance to Bangladesh workers

Dubai, February 4, 2010

Oman Insurance has signed a contract with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dubai, to provide insurance cover to domestic workers coming to Dubai from Bangladesh.

Under the contract, the sponsor has to avail this insurance cover for the domestic worker, which will provide compensation for death, accidental medical expenses, repatriation expenses, legal expenses, etc.

“This is not the first initiative from Oman Insurance Company to this segment; a similar initiative was launched and is very successful with the Consulate General of Srilanka, Dubai. Domestic helps are an exploited and generally neglected lot,” stated Abdul Muttalib Mustafa Al Jaidi, chief of Oman Insurance Company.

“This contract will provide a mechanism for ensuring welfare of Bangladeshi housemaids who feel insecure and astrayed being in a foreign workplace. This event will go a long way in providing solace to their family members back home,” said Md Abu Zafar, the Counsel General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dubai.-TradeArabia News Service
