Kuwait, February 1, 2009

Kuwait, the only Gulf Arab state which does not peg its currency to the dollar, has appointed a new deputy governor for its central bank, an official said on Sunday.

Mohammad al-Hashel, who used to be executive director of the central bank's supervision sector is now the deputy governor, an official at the central bank told Reuters.

Former deputy governor Nabeel al-Mannae resigned in July to pursue other opportunities and no successor had been appointed since then. Kuwait's central bank has been headed by Sheikh Salem Abdul-Aziz al-Sabah for 22 years.-Reuters
