Emaar denies another tallest tower plan

Dubai, November 3, 2013

Dubai's Emaar Properties has denied any plans to construct another skyscraper in Dubai that is taller than Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Some media reports earlier quoted company chairman Mohamed Alabbar saying in an interview to CNN that the company planned to build a new skyscraper in the emirate that will be world's tallest.

“In a television conversation with CNN during April this year, company chairman Mohamed Alabbar discussed tall towers and modern technologies that make it possible for Dubai to build another tall building. The current media reports use this April conversation as a source which does not spell a firm decision," an Emaar spokesperson said.

“Emaar, however, does not have any current plans to develop a building taller than Burj Khalifa in Dubai,” the spokesperson said.

Dubai's 828-metre-high Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest tower in the world. It will be overtaken by Jeddah's Kingdom Tower, which is expected to be more than one kilometre tall. - TradeArabia News Service
