Shell Catalysts & Technologies divests environmental catalysts business assets to Lummus

Shell Catalysts & Technologies has sold intellectual property assets and experienced personnel linked to its Environmental Catalysts and Systems (ECS) business to Lummus Technology, supporting the continued growth of the environmental solutions unit.

ECS provides advanced emissions-control systems for industrial applications, helping customers reduce harmful pollutants and meet increasingly strict environmental regulations while maintaining operational performance.

The business’s portfolio includes DeNOx technologies designed to lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, with certain solutions achieving emissions reduction rates of more than 98–99% for key pollutants.

Shell Catalysts & Technologies developed ECS over more than 30 years, expanding it into a global environmental technology provider serving more than 300 customers worldwide, including Shell assets.

The company said the divestment will allow ECS to expand further within a complementary technology platform and reach more customers.

Shell Catalysts & Technologies will continue supporting ECS customers during a transition period to ensure continuity of supply and service.

The transaction reflects Shell’s ongoing focus on advancing environmental solutions while enabling ECS technologies to continue their growth in supporting cleaner industrial operations and improved air quality globally.

“This divestment reflects our commitment to ensuring that this important environmental solution is positioned for continued growth,” said Elise H. Nowee, President, Shell Catalysts & Technologies. “We have successfully built and supported the ECS business for many years, helping customers meet tighter emissions requirements. As the market evolves, our long-standing relationship with Lummus in specialised catalysts gives us confidence that they are well positioned to take it forward, scale the offering and continue delivering value for customers.”

Leon de Bruyn, President and Chief Executive Officer, Lummus Technology, added: “This acquisition immediately strengthens Lummus’ emissions-control and environmental solutions while deepening our cross-industry relationships. The current ECS customer base enhances our ability to support customers across the full lifecycle of their assets. I’m grateful for our long-term relationship with Shell Catalysts & Technologies, which laid the foundation for this transaction. We look forward to welcoming the ECS team and building on their success as we continue to serve the evolving needs of the energy and industrial sectors.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
