Bahrain invites prequalification bids for International Sports City project - Phase 1A

Bahrain’s Ministry of Works has launched a prequalification process for contractors for Phase 1A of the planned Bahrain International Sports City project, paving the way for the construction of a major new sports stadium and associated infrastructure in the kingdom.

According to the tender notice issued by the Ministry of Works, the prequalification exercise is aimed at identifying contractors with strong financial stability, technical expertise, proven performance, and adequate resources to undertake the large-scale development.

The ministry said the process is intended to ensure that only “competent and reliable firms” are invited to participate in the subsequent tender stage, helping reduce project risks and improve procurement efficiency.

The tender has been opened under a public invitation process. Tender documents became available on May 24, 2026, with submissions due by July 26, 2026. The bids are scheduled to be opened on July 27.

Under the eligibility criteria, contractors with prior experience in constructing major international sports stadiums will be invited to submit prequalification applications through specific joint venture arrangements.

The ministry said Saudi contractors classified under Class A for building construction works in Saudi Arabia may participate in joint ventures with foreign international stadium specialists. Bahraini contractors registered under Category AA for building construction works may also participate through joint ventures with experienced international stadium contractors.

In addition, Saudi and Bahraini contractors may jointly partner with foreign international contractors with relevant stadium construction expertise.

The tender documents are available through the Bahrain Tender Board’s electronic portal.  - TradeArabia News Service
