OPES, Oman Sustainability Week 2026 open in Muscat

Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES) 2026 and Oman Sustainability Week (OSW) 2026 opened on May 18 2026 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), bringing together government leaders, global energy companies, sustainability experts, investors, policymakers, and innovators for one of the region’s most influential integrated energy and sustainability gatherings.

Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the events continue until  May 20, 2026.

Organised by CONNECT and hosted by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), OPES and OSW return as a unified platform that reflects the Sultanate’s commitment to balancing energy security, industrial growth, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability objectives.

The co-location of both events continues to strengthen collaboration between the energy and sustainability ecosystems while reinforcing Oman’s strategic position as a regional hub for innovation, investment, and future-focused dialogue.

Occupying the full exhibition halls of OCEC and extending beyond the venue through curated technical visits and networking programmes, OPES and OSW 2026 represent one of the largest editions of the events to date, with participation from leading regional and international organisations across the energy, sustainability, mobility, infrastructure, and technology sectors.

This year, Oman Sustainability Week (OSW) 2026 is held under the theme “Sustainability in Action: Innovation, Investment, Impact,” highlighting the importance of turning sustainability ambitions into measurable outcomes through collaboration, technology, and strategic investment.

Meanwhile, the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES) 2026 is guided by the theme “Winning Through Collaboration: Achieving Sustainable Energy Future,” reinforcing the critical role of partnerships, innovation, and integrated industry action in navigating the evolving global energy landscape.

Key national energy transition milestones shared by the Ministry highlighted the Sultanate’s accelerating progress toward sustainability and decarbonisation goals.

Renewable energy accounted for approximately 9% of Oman’s total electricity generation over the past year, reflecting the country’s growing investment in clean energy infrastructure.

Among the major achievements highlighted was the simultaneous launch of the Manah 1 and Manah 2 solar projects, which together contribute a combined generation capacity of 1 Gigawatt (GW), marking a significant advancement in Oman’s renewable energy portfolio.

The Ministry also confirmed substantial progress in emissions reduction efforts, with the energy sector successfully reducing routine flaring by 50% to date.

This progress supports Oman’s continued pathway toward achieving its Zero Routine Flaring target by 2030.

Salim Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, stated: “Oman Petroleum & Energy Show and Oman Sustainability Week 2026 reflect Oman’s continued commitment to building a resilient and forward-looking energy future, one that strengthens energy security while accelerating sustainable development and innovation. These platforms play an important role in enabling dialogue, advancing strategic partnerships, and supporting the exchange of ideas that will shape the future of energy, industry, and sustainability in the Sultanate and beyond.”

Mohsin Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals & Chairman of Rekan, said: "The identity launch of 'Rekan' marks a turning point in our social investment paradigm, placing the human element at the core of national development. Originating in 2018 as a voluntary alliance of eight oil and gas companies, Ministerial Decision No. 323/2025 has now institutionalised this foundation under governance frameworks aligned with Oman Vision 2040. Over the past decade, the coalition executed 11 major social projects with a total expenditure exceeding OMR 15.5 million, spanning healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and community infrastructure."

Mohammed Al Aghbari External Affairs, Government Relations, and Communications Manager, said:  “Petroleum Development Oman Petroleum Development Oman is proud to support the successful opening of the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show and Oman Sustainability Week, which further reinforce the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a leading destination for responsible energy and sustainable innovation. The strong participation of industry leaders, decision-makers, and technology pioneers reflects a shared commitment to advancing practical solutions that address the evolving demands of today while balancing energy security, economic growth, and sustainability objectives. This event also serves as an effective platform for strengthening collaboration, exchanging expertise, and attracting investment, contributing to shaping the future of the energy sector in Oman and the wider region.”

Pierluigi D'Elia, Italian Ambassador to Oman, said: “The Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES) 2026 and Oman Sustainability Week (OSW) 2026 reflect Oman’s growing role as a regional centre for strategic dialogue, innovation, and international cooperation across the energy and sustainability sectors. Italy is proud to participate in these important platforms, which create meaningful opportunities for collaboration between Italian and Omani institutions and companies across renewable energy, circular economy solutions, sustainable infrastructure, advanced engineering, and industrial technologies.”

The integrated platform continues to advance meaningful dialogue around resource sustainability, energy transition, innovation, decarbonisation, and environmental stewardship. The thematic focus of OPES 2026 centres on accelerating innovation across the oil, gas, and energy sectors, while OSW 2026 continues to champion sustainable growth, climate resilience, and circular economy development in alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and the Sultanate’s Net Zero ambitions.

Jasim Al Ajmi, Vice President Sustainability & Communications, OQ, said: "At OQ, we believe the future of energy depends on balancing industrial growth with environmental responsibility. Our participation in OPES and OSW reflects our commitment to advancing this balance through innovation, operational excellence and sustainable growth. Across the Group, we continue to integrate decarbonisation into our operations while investing in lower-carbon solutions that support Oman’s energy transition and long-term Net Zero ambitions."

Organised by Oman Exhibitions Organising Company (CONNECT) and hosted by Petroleum Development Oman, the co-located events are expected to welcome more than 50,000 industry professionals and feature over 500 international speakers representing leading organisations from across the global energy and sustainability sectors.

Throughout the week, OPES and OSW 2026 are delivering an expansive programme of exhibitions, conferences, CPD-certified talks sessions, exclusive C-Level roundtables, technical workshops, investor engagement forums, and curated site visits.

Together, these programmes are creating a dynamic environment for knowledge exchange, strategic collaboration, and commercial engagement across regional and international markets.

The conferences are hosting discussions on energy security, decarbonisation, LNG, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, ESG, circular economy, future mobility, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

The sessions bring together senior government representatives, CEOs, technology leaders, and sustainability experts to explore the evolving energy and environmental landscape.
