Global Village gears up to mark New Year’s Eve

DUBAI, December 20, 2020

Global Village, the UAE and wider region's leading multicultural family destination for culture, shopping, and entertainment, is inviting guests to join the excitement and welcome 2021 in style on December 31st for their New Year's Eve Celebrations.

As a great venue for families to bring in the New Year, Global Village offers a winning combination of standout shopping, delicious dining, and enthralling entertainment attractions. As ever, the highlight this year is the seven fireworks displays that will light up the skies when the New Year officially begins in seven countries around the world for seven times the fun. The displays will go live immediately after the countdown to midnight in each time zone, meaning guests will be a part of the biggest and best New Year’s celebrations program in the UAE.

Shaun Cornell, Director of Entertainment at Global Village, said: "We are so excited to say goodbye to 2020 and welcome 2021 that we’re going to do it seven times over! Celebrations begin at 4pm with shopping, dining and great entertainment for kids with all their favourite characters. For New Year fun and thrills we have created a very special Carnaval offer with unlimited rides for the whole family. Finally our seven firework displays for midnight in seven different timezones start at 8pm. Global Village is all about bringing people and cultures from all over the world together and celebrating midnight with people across the globe has become something of a tradition here at Global Village. This year is, of course, a special one with many people having to stay apart from their loved ones, so providing a safe and welcoming environment for families to celebrate together is all the more important.”

The fireworks spectacular will begin with China at 8 pm UAE time, followed by Thailand at 9 pm. Guests will then herald the New Year in Bangladesh at 10 pm, India at 10.30 pm, and Pakistan at 11 pm. At midnight, the most dazzling fireworks display of all will capture the imagination of guests as New Year in the UAE officially gets underway. One hour later at 1 am, the seventh and final display will then commence that coincides with New Year in Moscow, Russia.

As the number one shopping spot for authentic gifts from around the globe, Global Village is the place where guests can find unique clothing, handicrafts, perfume, home décor and more from 78 different countries. Whether it be unique marble decorations or genuine leather jackets from the Pakistan pavilion, stunning silk dresses from our Indian outlets, stylish handmade shoes inside the Lebanon pavilion, exceptional perfumes from local UAE businesses, or distinctive dolls from the Russia pavilion, there is something for everyone at the 3,500 shops, stalls and pavilions.

All this shopping will make guests hungry, thankfully they are able to enjoy the finest flavours from around the world to add to the celebratory spirit. Choosing the perfect New Year feast from the 19 restaurants and four cafes across the park, including Syrian, Thai, American, Georgian, Turkish, Indian cuisines, will ensure the whole family ends the year with a full stomach. Further, over 170 kiosks and trolleys make this the largest and most culturally diverse street food offering in the region.

Although there is no main stage, pavilion, or street entertainment this New Year’s Eve as part of Global Village’s award winning precautionary measures, Kids’ Theatre will be running shows starring everyone’s favourite characters including Ben and Holly, Chotta Bheem, PJMasks, and multiple clown spectacular and interactive clowning until 9.30 pm. The ever-popular Global Village Stunt Show will present its Season 25 production “Mission Speed” five times throughout the evening featuring high-speed Police car chases, fire-fights, precision driving, back-flipping bikes, explosions and high falls.

Guests can take advantage of a special New Year Carnaval offer by purchasing a wrist band which gives unlimited access to rides for the whole night. The same wrist band will also offer 2 for 1 chances to test themselves in the skill games, doubling their chances to go home a winner with a huge soft toy prize. Carnaval is home to more than 30 exhilarating kids, family and thrill rides, dozens of skill games and over 100 arcade games.
