MUSCAT, June 12, 2016

Work on the new supply building at Muscat International Airport is progressing at a steady pace and the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, said a report.

The operations related to packages 11 and 12 are going in full swing with the implementation rate of some parts nearing 90 per cent, reported the Oman Observer.

Package 11 involves supply and installation of 40 aerobridges, movable connectors extending from the airport terminal gate to an aircraft, allowing passengers to board and disembark without going outside or being exposed to the elements, and are part of the new developments at the airport.

Package 12 involves supply, design, installation and operation of aircraft maintenance hangars besides construction of air cargo terminals at Muscat and Salalah airports, said the report.

The contractor is currently carrying out pilot operations for the aerobridges, nine of which have already been connected to the power supply, it stated.

On the progress at the air cargo terminal of Muscat airport, the contractor said steel structural work is more than 87 per cent and the civil works are currently under way, the report added.
