Mövenpick to open third hotel in Doha on May 1

DOHA, April 24, 2016

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts (MHR) will operate its third property in Doha from next week - a strategic move that will capitalise on Qatar’s status as a world-class sports hub and host of the 2022 Football World Cup.

The upscale 139-room Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha, located in the city’s internationally-renowned Aspire Zone, also known as Doha Sports City, will open its doors on May 1, taking over the luxurious Victorian-style building currently occupied by Grand Heritage Hotel Doha.

It marks a Doha hat-trick for MHR, which already operates Mövenpick Hotel Doha and Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha, and will take the Swiss hospitality firm’s total Qatar inventory to more than 640 keys.

Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha will not only be well-placed to host top-ranking international sports teams, with Aspire playing a critical role in the run up to the World Cup, but will also cater to corporate groups staging events at the nearby Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), now considered a regional hub for meetings and events, said a statement.

“This property already has a loyal guest following and we look forward to building on this legacy, showcasing Mövenpick’s unique style of Swiss hospitality,” said Andreas Mattmüller, chief operating officer, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Middle East and South Asia.

Highlights of the five-star Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha include an eclectic dining offering, ranging from the traditional Victoria Tea Lounge to contemporary Turkish restaurant, Agora, as well as the elegant international outlet Blue, famous for sushi, steaks and a scenic park view. There’s also a luxury spa with six treatment rooms, a fitness centre and indoor pool, plus five function rooms.

The property, owned by E’EMAR Development & Real Estate Investment, is also a short walk from the prestigious Venice-style Villaggio Mall, a draw card for the GCC market.

E’EMAR Development & Real Estate Investment chief operating officer Khalid Badrieh said: “As we embark on a new phase for our hotel asset, in partnership with Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, we are well positioned to meet growing demand from visitors choosing Qatar as a premium destination for sports, business and leisure tourism.” - TradeArabia News Service
