Morocco sees GCC tourist numbers steadily rise

Morocco has witnessed GCC tourist numbers continually rise over the years, following initiatives taken by the government as well as the hospitality sector to attract more travellers.

The hospitality sector’s direct contribution to the Morocco’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014 reached MAD 72.3 billion ($7.37 billion), accounting for 8.1 per cent of the GDP, and is further expected to rise by 3.7 per cent to MAD 74.9 billion ($7.64 billion) in 2015.

Stephan Killinger, president of Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort said that relatively new markets achieved significant growth in recent period and the number of GCC tourists to Mazagan was remarkably higher this summer due to the unique tourism products developed by the resort for families and individuals alike.

The United Nations’ World Tourism Organization report said that the Government of Morocco has taken several measures to promote tourism, such as allocating MAD 100 million ($10.19 million) to implement a short-term plan for the advancement of Morocco market as a major destination for tourism. The government also signed a three-year agreement to host the Grand Final of World Travel Awards in Morocco, due to its significant impact of attracting the most prominent pioneers of this industry.
