Dubai may move one airline to new airport

Dubai, November 18, 2013

Dubai could move the base of one of its two airlines - flydubai and Emirates — to the new Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central by 2020, a senior official was quoted as saying.

In an interview with the Gulf News, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive, Emirates Airline and Group, said more capacity is needed at Al Maktoum International Airport. " So in the future, you will see that Dubai gets two airports with almost similar capacity at both the airports," he said.

Asked if Al Maktoum airport will see one of the two airlines move operations there, Shaikh Ahmad said: “For sure, 100 per cent,” adding it will be either flydubai or Emirates.

He also said in the interview that HH Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, will announce the expansion for the Al Maktoum International soon.
